IMG_2804 IMG_2807 IMG_2813 IMG_2798 IMG_2800 IMG_2803A delegation led by Mr. Biodun Onayele, Director General Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) paid a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Mr. Jamiu Ashimi in his office at the Secretariat, Alausa to sensitize the Ministry on the statutory functions of the Bureau which include regulating, preserving and disseminating accurate records on Lagos State.

According to Mr. Onayele, the visit was necessary to seek for a working relationship between the Bureau and the Ministry as both are custodians of the history, culture, heritage and policies of the State. He added that the benefits arising from the relationship will boost and add value to the promotion and development of tourism and cultural heritage in the State.

He also stated that the Bureau will act as a backup for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as a “one stop shop” for persons, groups and organisations needing information on Lagos State.

In his response, Mr. Ashimi thanked the team for the visit and assured the Director General of the full cooperation of the Ministry in assisting the Agency in attaining its statutory functions. He further stated that the State Government is in full support of boosting the tourism and cultural heritage of the State hence there is need for immediate collaboration.

He further stated that he will avail the Bureau all documents and publications relating to the activities of the Ministry most especially the ones related to the Lagos @ 50 celebration for preservation and public consultation.

The Director General thereafter presented the Permanent Secretary with the Bureau’s bronchure and extant circulars directing all MDAs to be involving LASRAB in their activities and also to be depositing 2 (two) copies of all publications (print & electronics) done with the State Government’s funds to the Bureau.

The LASRAB’s team that visited the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture with the Director General comprises Dr. Kolawole Oseni, Head, Records & Archives, Mr. Babatunde Aragbada, Asst. Director, Admin & HR, Mr. Lookman Durojaiye, Head Public Affairs Unit, Mr. Ayodeji Olukoya, Principal Programme Analyst and Aisha Animashaun, Public Affairs Officer.

Mr. Onayele made this appeal on Thursday during the celebration of Y2017 Lagos Creation Day. The theme of the event “Origin and Evolution of Lagos State” was specially selected to educate and inform the students on the historical facts of Lagos from its colonial period to the present day.

He further stated that Lagos is an integral and Gateway to the Development of Nigeria. He urged the public to learn to be useful to their Organization through Records keeping and Archives Management as the Bureau is to open to private and public individual for consultation of facts on the history, people and culture of Lagos.

The Guest Speaker, Dr. Habeeb Abiodun Sanni of the History & International Relations Department, Lagos State University (LASU) spoke extensively on the origin and evolution of the State between 1430 to 1967. He corrected the popular saying that “Lagos is a no man’s land” by emphasizing that Lagos actually belong to some people part of who are the Aworis.
He delved into various aspect of history of the State from the Portuguese who gave the name Lagos to the succession process of Obaship in the State and the relationship between the people of the Lagos State and Benin Kingdom.
Senior Secondary School Students from both the public and private schools graced the occasion with some of their teachers. They appreciated the Bureau for giving the opportunity to be part of the students who benefited from the lecture and enjoined the Bureau to continue with such gesture as the event was educative, informative and inspiring.

The Director General, Lagos State Records & Archives Bureau (LASRAB), Mr. Biodun Onayele and members of the Management Staff paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola in her office.
The Director General briefed the Head of Service the functions and activities of the Bureau and also sought her support and assistance to enable the Bureau perform its statutory mandate stipulated in Law No. 22 of 2007 which established the Bureau.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information & Strategy, Mr. Fola Adeyemi who was present laid emphasizes on the request made by Mr. Onayele on behalf of the Bureau and sought the assistance of the Head of Service in granting the request made.
