Mr Deji Hamzat was born on 26th June, 1974 in Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria. He had his secondary education at Baptist High School and Anwar-Ul-Islam Grammar School, both in Iwo. He graduated with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Sociology from the University of Ibadan in 2001 and 2005 respectively.
He worked as a Sales Representative for Aiico Insurance Plc from 2005 to 2007 before he joined the Public Service of Lagos State in July 2007 as a Personal Assistant to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy. He subsequently joined the mainstream of the Lagos State Civil Service in October, 2008, as a Senior Archivist in the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB).
As a result of his professional astuteness and dedication, he was made the Coordinator of the Records and Archives Department of the Bureau in August, 2011 with the responsibility for general coordination of departmental administration and operations. In September 2015, he was appointed as the Head of Records Management of the Bureau.
Mr. Hamzat was a member of the Secretariat to the Committee that drafted the Lagos State Records and Archives Management Policy in 2010. He served as a Research Assistant to the Lagos State History Project Committee between 2013 and 2014. He was a member of the State Archives Survey Delegation to Brazil in 2013. He is a certified Management Trainer by the Centre for Management Development (CMD) and a Professional Member of the RIMA Foundation Knowledge Network. He has facilitated a number of training programmes on records management.
Mr. Deji Hamzat loves reading, teaching, playing table tennis, and travelling.
